Book Review: Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change by Sara L. Orem, Jacqueline Binkert and Ann L. Clancy

Jamie recommends Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change, which describes an approach to coaching that is rooted in Appreciative Inquiry. Appreciative Inquiry is based on the assumption that inquiry into and dialogue about strengths, successes, hopes and dreams is itself a transformational process. Rather than focusing on individuals in limited or problem-oriented ways, Appreciative Coaching guides individuals though 4 stages:  Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny, that inspire them to an appreciative and empowering view of themselves.

Using this approach, coaches will discover new ways to flourish in their practices, and with their clients, by affirming and recognizing a spirit of inquiry that brings forth the best in others. The book has tools which can be incorporated into any coaching practice, and stories, which demonstrate how this method works. This book teaches how to have your clients flourish, which if we can do as coaches, is a job well done!
