Who Are You Becoming?

So what does becoming mean? For me it means thinking about the roles I play already, such as mother, wife, executive coach, friend, sister, daughter, mentor, leadership skills trainer, and board member. I am sure there are others. Then I thought about my activities this past year, and realize that I am becoming a passionate activist for several causes that I believe in. Wow, a new role! For me—that has meant taking action and showing up for what I believe in; the things I am passionate about. Whether it has meant marching, donating money, showing up for committee meetings, engaging another person in conversation, I am proud to say that I am doing things I have not done before—taking it to the next level. I feel empowered to be part of things larger than myself in a way that I have not before. I have learned that through my important and purposeful activities, I am deriving greater meaning in my life. This feels very good!

The question I pose to you is who are you becoming in this new year? It may be a better version of you in a role you have, or the way you show up in the world already. It might also be a completely new role or way of showing up in the world. The sky is the limit! So give some thought to who you are becoming or would like to become in this new year, and see where it takes you. Remember—a new year—is full of possibilities. Go for it!
